Are you ready to make your own wreath!? Okay, maybe that was a little bit too peppy. Anyway, decorating wreaths is something that I look forward to doing at the beginning of each season. I constantly opt for the grapevine style wreath. It has more of a natural, whimsical look to it. This wreath was super easy, and only took a few materials to create, so let’s get started.
You should choose your flowers and vines by picking out blooms with colors and textures that make you happy. You can copy mine, but don’t be afraid to do our own thing. Keep your eye out for something that will make your wreath unique and beautiful to you. For this wreath, I had absolutely no idea what color scheme I wanted to follow, or what kind of flowers I wanted. It was easy to decide that I wanted something floral for spring/summer.
I got all my materials from Joann’s, but I often find that Hobby Lobby has plenty of excellent options too. In my cut flower arrangements, I like to mix tiny blooms or textures, and then try to go in with a bloom that is bigger to give some size variety. This is something that I also try to do when making wreaths.
I’ve loved yellow and purple together ever since I saw a huge yellow and purple bouquet at my first job in my hometown at a wonderful little flower shop. My dad picked out the purple flowers while he waited patiently for me to search through all of the flowers. The blue blooms were so sweet, and I thought it would be a nice addition for a bright look, and then some daisies to give a plain, but still bright, finish.
For this wreath specifically, I decided to put every bloom on one at a time. Some of you might find this extremely tedious, because it is. I do it because I like being able to control the bloom distribution inside of the grapevine, especially when combining blooms with such different textures. I prefer to use wire cutters because they cut so efficiently with fake flower stems. It is possible to make this wreath using regular scissors. But trust me, it will be more work than it needs to be.
The actual construction of this wreath is super simple. First, I cut every end of my yellow branch off so that I could weave them through the wreath individually. It looks more original, and makes it easier to spread the yellow color more evenly. Then I popped in all the purple blooms. I put some together to give the illusion of bigger blooms while also carrying out other purple blooms elsewhere throughout the wreath. Lastly, I added individual daisies and singular hydrangea blooms to get my finished product.
Make sure that you’ve weaved the flowers deep enough into the wreath that unpredictable weather will not be able to rip them out. I usually find myself rearranging my wreath throughout the process until the colors and bloom distribution look balanced and complete!
Please feel free to tag me in photographs of your wreaths, or send me some pictures of your finished product! I hope that you have fun with this simple, beautiful craft!
