These DIY floral candles are so simple and so adorable! They have a perfect white background with a little pop of color, and I’m obsessed! This craft takes a little bit more planning—just because you will have to have some dry pressed flowers before you can get started. If you’ve never pressed flowers, it is so easy! You can either grab a flower press, or a good book to tuck your blooms in while they dry. If you decide to get a flower press, I recommend you look for one that can be screwed down tight for nice flat pressed flowers.
Because I’m so in love with flowers, I have mounds of pressed flowers in my house, and I gather more every season. I actually drive around with scissors in my car just in case I see a bloom that I can’t live without! Don’t worry. I try not to cut flowers out of people’s yards (I may have done that once or twice though…. Don’t judge me!).
I like to choose blooms that have brighter colors and a variety of different shapes—just to give a pretty visual affect. Colors that are opposites on the color wheel tend to pop the most, but you can’t really go wrong with flowers because they’re all so beautiful. They’re going to be in YOUR house, so you should choose whatever you love! That’s part of the fun, right? Okay, so before I get lost in pressed flower daydreams, let’s get started with what you will need!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Large candles (generic white ones are my favorite)
- Pressed flowers of your choice
- A tea light candle
- A metal spoon
That’s simple enough, right? I got my white candles at Joann’s, but Walmart has some good choices too. Because my candle sticks are different heights, I wanted two candles that were the same size. I prefer white candles because they give such a bright finish, but if you decide to try it with a colored candle, don’t hesitate to send in a picture because I would love to see how they turn out!
Also, smoke will be getting on the spoon, so don’t choose anything fancy! Although it will probably rub off, there’s no need to risk harming your prettiest silverware!
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Start by choosing some blooms that you think look darling together
- Hover your spoon over the flame (Make sure you use the same side every time!)
- Take the other side of the spoon (the non-smoke side) and press it onto the candle with a flower in between the spoon and the candle
- Repeat that process until the flower is secure in the wax
My candle sticks were hidden under a bunch of ugly wall hangers in a thrift store for .50 cents each! I fell in love with their brassy color and unique shape right away. I love how cheap and fast this project is, and there are so many different kinds of candle holders to choose from. As usual, World Market has a ton of beautiful options if you’re on the hunt for some pretty ones for your home. If you don’t find any there, you might want to hit your local thrift store! I swear you never know what treasures you can uncover.
This craft is so simple, and the outcome is adorable. I love the bright finish that the sharp white candles and bright flowers give. If you’re up to it, give the craft a try, and don’t be afraid to send in some pictures! I would LOVE to see how yours turn out! Most of all, have fun!
